Éric Chelle Unveiled as Super Eagles Head Coach, Promises Attacking Revolution and World Cup Qualification

Éric Chelle, the newly appointed Head Coach of Nigeria’s Super Eagles, has pledged to bring an attacking philosophy to the team, emphasizing that football is all about scoring goals.

Chelle made this commitment on Monday during his official unveiling at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja, a ceremony attended by key stakeholders in Nigerian football.

The Franco-Malian tactician, who earned five caps as a player for Mali, has enjoyed a career spanning clubs like FC Martigues, Valenciennes, Lens, Istres, and Chamois Niortais.

Now taking the reins of one of Africa’s most prestigious teams, Chelle expressed his gratitude and enthusiasm for the role.

“Coaching the Super Eagles of Nigeria is an amazing job; I do not take this appointment for granted. I am elated and will do my utmost best,” Chelle stated.

“Football is about scoring goals, so I favour an attacking style. I know the expectations of Nigerians and will work diligently with my team to secure qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.”

President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ibrahim Gusau, called for national support for Chelle, emphasizing the tactician’s passion and readiness to meet the challenges ahead.

“I see in the new Head Coach the right spirit and attitude to galvanize the Super Eagles. This is his dream job, and we are confident in his ability to turn around the team’s fortunes,” Gusau said.

Chelle has signed a two-year contract with an option for a one-year extension if he leads the Super Eagles to World Cup qualification. He will work alongside his three assistants and the current coaching crew to elevate the team’s performance.

The NFF also confirmed that Chelle will temporarily join the Super Eagles B team in Ikenne as they prepare for the upcoming 8th African Nations Championship, taking on a supervisory role in the meantime.

National Sports Commission (NSC) Chairman Shehu Dikko affirmed the commission’s backing of the new coach, commending the thorough process that led to Chelle’s recruitment.

Prominent figures present at the unveiling included Anthony Adeboye, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Grassroots Sports Development; Sharif Inuwa, Chairman of the NFF Technical and Development Committee; Augustine Eguavoen, NFF Technical Director; and Mohammed Sanusi, NFF General Secretary.

With high expectations from fans and stakeholders alike, Chelle’s tenure begins with promises of attacking football and a renewed focus on success at the global stage.
