Lagos was thrown into chaos on Friday morning after a suspected drunk driver plowed into a group of soldiers jogging outside Myoung Barracks in the Morocco area of Shomolu, killing four and injuring several others.
The horrific accident occurred during the soldiers’ routine monthly road exercise, turning what should have been a disciplined fitness routine into a deadly disaster.
According to eyewitnesses, a speeding Toyota vehicle, occupied by three young men, lost control and rammed into the unsuspecting military personnel.
Speaking with our correspondent, an eyewitness named Priscilla, who resides in the area, recounted the tragic sequence of events.
She described how the occupants of the vehicle tried to escape the scene after the crash, but enraged bystanders and soldiers quickly apprehended them.
She explained that the vehicle was moving at full speed before the tragic collision, and after realizing the gravity of their actions, the young men attempted to flee.
However, they were immediately caught and beaten by an angry mob, with their vehicle vandalized beyond recognition.
In the heat of the moment, one of the suspects was reportedly stabbed, though his condition remains unknown.
The shocking incident has left residents of Morocco, Shomolu, in fear of possible military reprisals. Security operatives have since been deployed to the area to prevent further escalation.
Meanwhile, official statements from the Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, 81 Division, Olabisi Ayeni, and the Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, are still awaited at the time of filing this report.
