A senior teacher, Mr. Terkura Gabriel, at NKST Secondary School, Utange, Ushongo Local Government Area of Benue State, has reportedly been hospitalized following an assault by a student.
According to sources, the confrontation arose from a dispute involving a female student who is reportedly the girlfriend of the assailant.
Tensions escalated when the teacher allegedly became entangled in the matter, culminating in a violent attack that left him with severe injuries.
Eyewitnesses claimed that the situation spiraled out of control, with the teacher suffering a "general beating" from the student, leaving the school community in shock. Mr. Gabriel was promptly taken to a nearby hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment.
The incident has sparked debates on professionalism within educational institutions, with critics urging teachers to maintain appropriate boundaries with their students.
"If you are a teacher, be professional and stop getting too familiar with students. Most of these guys are unpredictable and act recklessly," one observer remarked, referencing the growing indiscipline fueled by peer pressures and risky behaviors.
School authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, promising to address the issue and restore order within the institution.
Meanwhile, concerned parents and stakeholders are calling for stricter measures to ensure teacher safety and promote discipline among students.
