Ebonyi State Governor Announces ₦150,000 Christmas Bonus for Civil Servants

Civil servants in Ebonyi State are set to enjoy a joyful Christmas as Governor Francis Nwifuru announced a ₦150,000 Christmas bonus for all state workers.

The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Monday Uzor, shared this update via a Facebook post on Thursday night, assuring that the payment would be made before 1 pm on Tuesday, December 17, 2024.

Uzor quoted the governor as saying, “Every Worker in Ebonyi State service will receive ₦150,000 as a Christmas Bonus before 1 pm on Tuesday… Gov. Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru.”

This announcement follows a series of worker-friendly policies by the Nwifuru-led administration. On October 27, 2024, the governor approved the payment of a new minimum wage of ₦75,000 for civil servants in the state.

At the time, a statement by the governor’s spokesman highlighted that the wage increase was in response to the country’s economic challenges, particularly as they affected public workers.

The statement clarified that the least-paid civil servant on Grade Level 2 would now earn a full minimum wage of ₦75,000, while employees from Grade Level 3 and above would receive an incremental increase of ₦40,000 across the board.

Governor Nwifuru described the new Christmas bonus as part of his administration’s ongoing effort to improve the welfare of workers in Ebonyi State.

He emphasized that civil servants are the backbone of governance and deserve adequate support, particularly during festive periods.

“This Christmas bonus is a token of appreciation for the hard work and dedication of our civil servants,” Nwifuru reportedly stated. “As a government, we remain committed to improving the living standards of our workers, even as we navigate the economic realities in the country.”

The announcement has sparked excitement among state workers, many of whom praised the governor for his proactive approach to worker welfare.

An Ebonyi State civil servant, who wished to remain anonymous, expressed gratitude for the bonus, saying, “This is a huge relief. Governor Nwifuru has truly shown he cares about us. This will make our Christmas celebrations better.”

Governor Nwifuru’s administration has earned praise in recent months for implementing policies that prioritize worker welfare and economic stability.

With the new wage implementation and now the Christmas bonus, Ebonyi State workers can look forward to a brighter and more secure future under his leadership.
