Akume Dispels Myth, Insecurity Not Rooted in Natural Resources Alone

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, has dismissed assertions that Nigeria's rising insecurity is solely driven by natural resources.
Speaking during a recent engagement, Akume emphasized that while natural resources play a role, attributing the country’s security challenges solely to them oversimplifies the complex situation.

“There are multifaceted issues at play, including socio-economic factors, political grievances, and external influences.

Blaming natural resources alone is not only inaccurate but also unhelpful in addressing the root causes,” Akume stated.

The SGF urged stakeholders to adopt a holistic approach to tackling insecurity, involving economic reforms, social cohesion, and improved governance.

His remarks come amidst growing debates over the impact of illegal mining, land disputes, and oil-related conflicts on national security.

Analysts have also pointed to poverty, unemployment, and political instability as critical contributors to the problem.

Akume reiterated the government’s commitment to restoring peace and security across the nation, calling for collaborative efforts from all sectors to achieve lasting solutions.
