Despite the turbulent exit that marked Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure from Manchester United, former United striker Teddy Sheringham suggests the door may still be open for the Portuguese icon’s return to Old Trafford.
Speaking with Mirror UK, Sheringham noted that Ronaldo would likely be warmly received if he considered a comeback especially if Portugal’s Ruben Amorim, tipped to become United’s next manager, takes the helm.
Ronaldo’s initial return to United in 2021 was met with excitement, but his second stint soured quickly, culminating in his controversial interview with Piers Morgan and eventual move to Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia.
Now the top scorer in the Saudi Pro League and a prominent face in global football, Ronaldo has embraced a fresh chapter in his career.
Sheringham believes that Amorim, who once shared the pitch with Ronaldo for Portugal, could facilitate a harmonious reunion at United. “Cristiano Ronaldo would be very welcome back at Manchester United under Ruben Amorim,” Sheringham told FlashScore.
However, he also suggested that Ronaldo might follow in the footsteps of David Beckham, transitioning to high-profile ventures rather than coaching.
At 39, Ronaldo has hinted that he’s unlikely to pursue a coaching role. In an interview on his YouTube channel, UR, he shared his disinterest in mentoring the current generation of players. “They don’t take advice from our experience.
They think phones will give them education TikTok, Instagram,” Ronaldo stated. Instead, the football legend has turned his attention toward business, viewing it as the next exciting challenge post-football.
With a focus on business, Ronaldo envisions a future away from the pitch, ready to explore new industries and continue building his global brand.
