The National Examinations Council (NECO) announced on Wednesday that it has successfully completed payment of allowances for the 72,138 examiners who served as ad hoc staff for the 2024 School-Based Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE).
This prompt payment reflects NECO's commitment to supporting its personnel and ensuring the smooth operation of the examination process.
The examiners, who were involved in marking and assessing students' performance across various subjects, are essential to the council’s mission of maintaining examination integrity and fairness.
In a statement released by NECO, officials expressed appreciation for the examiners' dedication and hard work, adding that their timely compensation aligns with NECO's drive to improve examiner welfare and uphold the quality of education in Nigeria.
This payment, covering all states, comes after NECO's assurance earlier in the year to enhance the efficiency and punctuality of their administrative processes.
NECO’s spokesperson further emphasized that the council remains dedicated to continuous improvements in examiner support and transparency.
The 2024 SSCE saw participation from thousands of students nationwide, and NECO's handling of examiner compensation marks another step toward strengthening public trust in Nigeria’s examination system.
