In a surprising turn of events, social media influencer and self-proclaimed ‘Queen of Snapchat,’ Okuneye Idris, better known as Bobrisky, was removed from an Amsterdam-bound KLM flight on Thursday night.
The removal came as a shock to passengers, especially to Nigerian social commentator Isaac Fayose, the brother of former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, who had earlier shared a photo of himself with Bobrisky on the same flight, en route to London.
“Look who’s on the same flight with me to London, @Bobrisky222,” Fayose posted on Instagram, sharing a selfie with Bobrisky. However, events soon took a dramatic turn. In a now-viral video on X (formerly Twitter), airport officials can be seen escorting Bobrisky off the plane, causing a stir online.
Following his removal, Bobrisky quickly took to his Instagram to alert fans, accusing Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of detaining him. “Nigerians help me, EFCC just arrested me. I’m badly injured,” he posted, sparking a wave of comments and speculation among his followers.
The incident marks the latest chapter in a mounting legal saga for the controversial cross-dresser. Just last month, Bobrisky was intercepted at the Seme border, allegedly attempting to flee Nigeria. This came shortly after a leaked audio recording surfaced in which Bobrisky reportedly claimed he had arranged to serve his six-month prison sentence for naira abuse outside Kirikiri prison through influential connections.
The EFCC has been investigating Bobrisky since April, after a Federal High Court in Lagos sentenced him to six months in prison for naira abuse. A recent update from EFCC Director of Public Affairs Wilson Uwajaren revealed that a committee has been appointed to investigate allegations that Bobrisky bribed EFCC officers with N15 million to drop money laundering charges against him.
“These allegations are serious,” Uwajaren stated on Thursday, “and if they are proven false, further charges could be brought against Mr. Idris.” The EFCC Act allows the commission to prosecute individuals who provide false information, raising the stakes for Bobrisky as he awaits the panel's verdict.
For now, Bobrisky's legal troubles seem far from over, and as this latest incident has shown, his travels will continue to be under the spotlight.
