In a tragic incident that has sent shockwaves through Imo State, a bomb explosion rocked a busy market, leading to chaos, injuries, and reported fatalities.
The Imo State Police Command has confirmed that the explosion, which caused a frantic stampede as people scrambled for safety, claimed the lives of two individuals.
The explosion reportedly occurred while the market was bustling with traders and buyers, instantly throwing the area into panic.
According to police sources, the two deceased individuals were suspected to be responsible for the bomb, which detonated prematurely as they attempted to plant it.
Police spokesperson Henry Okoye explained, "It was an IED (Improvised Explosive Device) that exploded.
The two individuals who were killed were involved in setting up the device when it went off."
Imo State Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, has ordered the deployment of Anti-Bomb operatives to secure the scene, investigate the cause, and ensure public safety.
Authorities have also called on residents to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to prevent further incidents.
"The situation is under control. We ask all Imolites to remain calm and report any unusual activity to the police," Okoye reassured the public
