The House of Representatives has called on the Federal Government to address the nation’s housing deficit with a fact-based approach by providing scientifically verifiable data.
The lawmakers emphasized the urgent need to tackle the growing housing crisis and ensure affordable housing is accessible to all citizens.

During plenary discussions, members expressed concerns about the lack of reliable statistics on the country's housing needs, which they believe has hindered effective policy-making and implementation.

They argued that without accurate data, strategies to close the housing gap would remain ineffective.

The motion, which garnered overwhelming support, highlighted the impact of the housing deficit on socio-economic development.

Lawmakers pointed out that millions of Nigerians are grappling with inadequate shelter, which directly affects productivity and quality of life.

The House urged the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing to partner with relevant stakeholders, including the private sector, to generate and publish transparent data on the housing shortfall.

They also called for innovative solutions to reduce construction costs and increase access to financing for low-income families.

As the government prepares to respond, the issue has sparked nationwide discussions, with housing advocates urging swift and decisive action to resolve one of the country’s most pressing challenges.
