Controversial Nigerian artist Speed Darlington, born Darlington Okoye, has been arrested by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force in Owerri, the capital of Imo State.
The incident reportedly occurred during a live performance at a show, days after the singer returned to the country.
Deji Adeyanju, a human rights lawyer and counsel to the artist, disclosed the development in a post on his official X account. He expressed concern over the arrest, stating:
“Our client, Speed Darlington, a.k.a AKPI, has been arrested by the Nigeria Police in Owerri at his show upon return to Nigeria.”
As of now, the reasons for the arrest remain undisclosed, fueling speculation about possible motives.
This is not the first time Speed Darlington has faced legal troubles. In a previous incident, the singer was detained over allegations of cyberstalking Afrobeat star Damini Ogulu, widely known as Burna Boy.
That arrest occurred in Lagos, after which he was transferred to Abuja for interrogation by the IGP’s Intelligence Response Team in Guzape.
News of the arrest has sparked mixed reactions online. While some fans expressed outrage over what they perceive as harassment, others pointed to Speed Darlington’s history of provocative behavior and public spats with other celebrities.
