In a legal showdown between two prominent Yoruba leaders, the Aareonakakanfo of Yorubaland, Gani Adams, has filed a substantial N5 billion lawsuit against Yoruba Nation activist Sunday Adeyemo, better known as Igboho.
The case was lodged at the Oyo State High Court in Ibadan, the state capital, in response to Igboho allegedly recording and releasing Adams' private phone conversation without his consent.
The suit is based on claims of invasion of privacy, with Adams alleging that Igboho’s actions were a breach of trust and respect.
According to Adams’ legal team, the recording of the conversation, which was initially held in confidence, violates Adams' personal and public reputation.
Adams’ spokesperson revealed that the lawsuit is aimed at addressing the misuse of private information, stressing that leaders in the Yoruba community should respect one another's privacy and uphold traditional values.
He also expressed that the suit underscores the need to set a precedent in protecting the privacy rights of individuals, especially those holding positions of influence.
The legal team representing Adams argued that such a violation could harm his image and create distrust within the Yoruba Nation movement.
The outcome of this case could impact how public figures handle confidential information, especially amid growing concerns about privacy rights in Nigeria.
