In the early hours of Saturday, a powerful explosion, suspected to be caused by dynamite, rocked the All Progressives Congress (APC) secretariat located along Aba Road in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. The blast caused significant damage to the building, bringing down its gate and shattering windows, doors, and other property.
This marks the second attack on the APC secretariat this year under the leadership of Chief Tony Okocha. The timing of the incident has raised concerns as it occurred just hours before the scheduled local government elections in the state. The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission had confirmed on Friday that all sensitive materials had been distributed across local government areas in preparation for the polls.
A viral video circulating online shows workers inspecting the damage at the site, though the full extent of the destruction is yet to be confirmed.
When reached for comment, Grace Iringe-Koko, spokesperson for the state police command, said she had not yet received an official report but promised to provide further information soon. The APC is yet to release a statement regarding the attack.
