Nigerian Army Denies Troops' Involvement in Kano Looting, Cites Response to Distress Call

In response to recent allegations of looting during protests in Kano, the Nigerian Army has firmly denied any involvement of its troops in the incidents.
During a press briefing on Monday, Army spokesperson Colonel Usman Abdullahi stated that the troops were deployed solely in response to a distress call from local authorities. "Our presence in Kano was to ensure the safety and security of the residents," Abdullahi emphasized. "Any claims of looting by our personnel are baseless and unfounded."

The protests, which erupted last week, saw a surge in civil unrest and reports of looting in various parts of the city. However, the Army has maintained that its role was strictly to restore order and protect lives and property.

Residents are urged to report any suspicious activities directly to the authorities as investigations continue to identify those responsible for the criminal acts during the protests.

Local officials and community leaders have been called upon to support the ongoing efforts to maintain peace and stability in Kano.
