Governor Alia Urged to Address Escalating Fulani Herdsmen Attacks in Agatu LGA

In a heartfelt appeal, the residents of Agatu Local Government Area (LGA) in Benue State have called on His Excellency, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, the Governor of Benue State, to urgently address the relentless and deadly attacks by Fulani herdsmen. 

The attacks have particularly devastated the Waterlines communities within Agatu LGA, forcing many residents to flee for their lives.

Communities such as Egwuma, Okpokpolo, Akele, Olegadaogbeche, Ikpinyi, and Engila, among others, have been completely deserted due to the constant violence. 

Properties have been destroyed, lives lost, and a once-thriving area has now become a shadow of its former self. 

The few remaining inhabitants have fled, leaving behind their farms, which are now freely grazed upon by the herdsmen without any resistance.

A concerned citizen, Sunday Ujih Emmanuel II, expressed the growing distress among the people of Agatu, highlighting the urgency of the situation. 

He emphasized that the escalating attacks have created a pervasive atmosphere of fear and insecurity, calling for immediate and decisive action from the state government.

During his campaign, Governor Alia promised to tackle the insecurity plaguing Benue State, offering hope to the citizens.

 Now, the people of Agatu are urging him to fulfill those promises by enhancing security, engaging local stakeholders, and fostering dialogue to prevent further violence.

"We have seen the good works you have done since taking office, but more needs to be done, especially regarding the insecurity that is costing lives daily. 

The people of Agatu can no longer farm, and their safety is at stake," Emmanuel II stated. He called on the governor to rise to the occasion and demonstrate the strength and resolve that inspired the people of Benue to vote for him.

The people of Agatu are looking to Governor Alia to take decisive measures to restore peace and security in the region.

 The time for action is now, and the citizens of Benue are counting on their governor to protect them and their communities from further harm.
