President Bola Tinubu has called for the enhancement of economic ties between Nigeria and its partner nations.
Speaking at the State House in Abuja on Thursday, Tinubu emphasized the importance of boosting bilateral relations for mutual benefit.
The President received Letters of Credence from the Ambassadors of Portugal, Jorge Adao Martins Dos Santos; Vietnam, Biu Quoc Hung; and Kuwait, Salim Khalifa Mohammed Almuzayen.
Expressing his appreciation for Nigeria’s enduring relationship with Portugal, Tinubu highlighted the mutual gains in trade, culture, and the oil and gas sector. “It is good to have you in Nigeria. I believe that with your presence, our bilateral relations will be further improved,” Tinubu said.
Portugal's Ambassador noted the significant interest of Portuguese investors in Nigeria and affirmed the longstanding trade in gas, which predates the Russia-Ukraine conflict. “We are one of the highest buyers of gas from Nigeria, and we remain grateful for the supplies,” he stated.
During his meeting with the Ambassador of Vietnam, Tinubu praised the technological expertise of the Asian nation, suggesting that Nigeria’s manufacturing sector could benefit from such skills. “We look forward to adding more value to our partnership with Vietnam, especially in technology,” the President remarked.
The Vietnamese envoy expressed optimism about Nigeria's future under Tinubu’s leadership and emphasized his commitment to strengthening bilateral ties.
In discussions with the Ambassador of Kuwait, Tinubu thanked the Emir and the Crown Prince for their ongoing support and stressed the shared commitment to development. The Kuwaiti Ambassador vowed to enhance economic cooperation for the benefit of both countries.
President Tinubu reaffirmed his open-door policy, encouraging the ambassadors to maintain direct lines of communication through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and his Chief of Staff, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila.
