The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered a new investigation into the death of Erasmus Emhenya, a young man who allegedly died in police custody at the Nyanya Divisional Police Headquarters, FCT, on April 10, 2023.
The move aims to uncover the cause of his death and ensure justice is served.
Force Spokesperson ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi announced that Egbetokun, expressing deep concern over the incident, has instructed the Deputy Inspector General of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (DIG FCID) to conduct a thorough and transparent investigation, with a report to be submitted promptly.
Egbetokun urged the public to remain calm and supportive during the investigation, assuring that the police are committed to upholding human rights. He emphasized that any officers found guilty of unprofessional conduct will face strict disciplinary action.
The IGP also extended his condolences to the deceased’s family and prayed for his soul’s repose.
