The Federal High Court in Abuja ruled against Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), in his N1 billion lawsuit for alleged human rights violations.
Kanu had accused the Attorney-General and the Department of State Services (DSS) of preventing his lawyers from interacting with him freely while detained, which he claimed infringed on his right to a fair hearing.
Justice James Omotosho dismissed Kanu's claims, citing a lack of substantial evidence. Kanu had alleged that the DSS tampered with his communications with his lawyers and unlawfully monitored their conversations.
This ruling contrasts with a previous decision by Justice Benson Anya, who declared the 2017 military invasion of Kanu's residence illegal and ordered the government to issue an apology and N1 billion in compensation.
