President Joe Biden will deliver what may be his final Oval Office address on Wednesday night, aiming to explain his decision to drop out of the upcoming November election while refuting claims that he will be a lame duck for the remainder of his term.
With global attention fixed on the anticipated showdown between Vice President Kamala Harris and Donald Trump, Biden plans to emphasize that his work is far from over despite his historic choice to step aside.
In a statement on X, the 81-year-old Democrat announced he would discuss “what lies ahead, and how I will finish the job for the American people” during the primetime broadcast at 8:00 pm (0000 GMT Thursday).
The eight to ten-minute speech will be Biden’s first public appearance since his surprise withdrawal from the race on Sunday, a decision that followed weeks of mounting pressure after a poorly received debate performance against Trump.
