Bashir El-Rufai, the son of former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai, recently issued a subtle caution to President Bola Tinubu regarding the upcoming 2027 elections.
In a social media post on Wednesday, El-Rufai underscored that "no individual is too powerful to be voted out of office by the people," implying that electoral defeat is a real possibility regardless of one's political clout.
El-Rufai urged the public to remain patient despite current political intimidations, particularly in Kaduna State. He suggested that even influential global financial institutions like the IMF and World Bank would not be able to shield politicians from electoral consequences. In a pointed remark, he noted, “Political strategist una. That one na for Lagos,” indirectly referencing Tinubu’s reputation as a political tactician, which many believe played a significant role in his 2023 presidential victory.
Meanwhile, Nasir El-Rufai, Bashir's father, has been embroiled in allegations of mismanaging public funds during his governorship. Bashir hinted at external forces influencing his father’s current political troubles, despite his pivotal role in Tinubu’s election, which subsequently saw him excluded from ministerial considerations.
In a follow-up post, Bashir El-Rufai clarified that he hadn't named any individuals, stressing his unwillingness to support a failed governance strategy disguised as an ethnic political maneuver. “I didn’t call names o, but due to their guilt, they already know who is being spoken about. Wallahi, none of you will force anyone to support this utter failure of governance disguised as a useless, dangerous ethnocentric political strategy,” he stated.
