Prince Harry, Meghan Markle Arrive Nigeria Friday

Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan, are set to embark on a week-long visit to Nigeria, starting Friday.
The visit comes at the invitation of Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, and is aimed at boosting Nigeria's chances of hosting the Invictus games.

The Royal Couple will visit an NGO in Abuja and the Nigerian Reference Army Hospital in Kaduna, where they will meet wounded and injured soldiers and see their medical records.

The hospital visit is significant as it provides an opportunity to assess the mental health needs of soldiers affected by insurgency in the counter-insurgency operations.

The director of Defence Sports, Air Vice Marshal Marquis Abidemi, emphasised the need to build a state-of-the-art structure for the management of wounded soldiers in Nigeria, particularly those suffering from post-traumatic stress syndrome.

The visit is also significant as a recent DNA test revealed that Meghan is 13% Nigerian, and she is excited to visit Nigeria as part of her lineage.

The event is a collaborative effort between the Defence Headquarters and Invictus Games Foundation, aimed at tapping into their knowledge. The couple will also engage with the wounded and injured soldiers through a volleyball match.

A proposed Invictus centre will be built in Abuja for the management of the wounded and injured soldiers, which will also have sporting facilities and a mini-hotel where their families can stay when coming to see them. The visit is expected to be a quiet reception, as the couple travelled 14 hours to get to Nigeria.
