The recently reinstated emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, has returned to the Kano Emir’s Palace in the early hours of Saturday morning, preventing the Nigerian government's alleged plan to bring the deposed emir, Aminu Bayero, back into the palace unnoticed.
Reports indicated the presence of soldiers and heavy security personnel at the Kano Emir’s Palace, supposedly to provide cover for the deposed emir, Aminu Bayero, who was set to return to the palace on Saturday morning.
Sources at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport informed the media that the dethroned monarch’s plane had landed.
It was reported that the Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, instructed the Nigeria Police Force to apprehend the former Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero.
The directive was issued in a statement by Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the governor's spokesperson, on his behalf.
The governor accused Ado Bayero of causing tension in the state and attempting to forcibly return to the palace after his dethronement.
The statement reads: “The former Emir was clandestinely brought into Kano city last night in an attempt to forcefully return to the palace two days after being deposed by the Governor.
“As the Chief Security Officer of the state, His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has instructed the Commissioner of Police to immediately arrest the deposed Emir for disturbing public peace and attempting to disrupt the relative peace the state enjoys.”
