The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) have announced an imminent nationwide strike scheduled to begin on Monday, June 3rd, 2024.
This decision was made as a result of the inability of the tripartite committee to come to an agreement on a new minimum wage.
The announcement was made during a joint press conference in Abuja on Friday, led by the President of TUC, Festus Osifo, alongside NLC leadership.
The organized Labour expressed their dissatisfaction with the prolonged negotiations and the government's failure to meet their demands.
The Labour leaders mentioned that the expiration of an earlier request to the Federal Government to conclude negotiations for a new minimum wage before the end of May as a reason for their decision.
This strike threat signifies a significant increase in tensions between the labor unions and the government.
It is worth noting that organized labor had previously withdrawn from negotiations and turned down two offers from the Federal Government, with the most recent proposal amounting to N60,000.
