The entrance to Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University, Makurdi (JOSTUM), formerly known as the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi (FUAM), has been locked down by angry villagers who reside around the institution.
The community members are demanding the immediate intervention of the Vice-Chancellor to resolve the persistent power outage affecting their homes.
Frustrated by the lack of electricity, the villagers have vowed to keep the school gate closed until their demands are met.
Chanting "No light for us, no school for you," they have barricaded the main entrance, disrupting activities within the university and leaving staff and students stranded outside.
One of the protest leaders expressed the community's grievances: "For too long, we have been living in darkness while the university enjoys power.
We have families and businesses that depend on electricity, and we are tired of being ignored."
In response, the university authorities have yet to issue an official statement, but it is clear that this standoff could escalate if immediate steps are not taken to address the villagers' demands.
As tensions rise, students and staff are anxiously waiting for a resolution to the conflict that has brought university activities to a halt.
