President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday administered the oath of office to two newly appointed National Commissioners of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), during a brief ceremony held at the Council Chambers of the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The commissioners—Abdulrazak Tukur, representing the North West zone, and Sunday Aja from Ebonyi State, representing the South East—were nominated in November 2024 and later confirmed by the Senate after their screening.
Their appointment comes at a crucial time as the electoral commission prepares for upcoming off-cycle elections and strengthens its capacity ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In the same event, President Tinubu also swore in Ikpeme Ndem from Cross River State and Justice Buba Nyaure from Taraba State as members of the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB), a key institution charged with promoting transparency and upholding ethics in public service.
The swearing-in ceremony took place just before the commencement of the 27th Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, which later moved into a closed-door session.
Present at the meeting were several top government officials including the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume; the Chief of Staff to the President, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila; and the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu.
Also in attendance were the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun; the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Atiku Bagudu; and the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, among others.
During the last FEC meeting held on May 5, the Council approved the Renewed Hope Nigeria-First Policy, aimed at prioritising the use of locally made goods and services in all government procurement processes.
